Dave and Mary Hjorth have always wanted to leave the world a little better than they found it by helping others. With a passion for supporting youth in their community, the Hjorths began making scholarships available to students at Upland High School in 1999. The scholarship awards were made possible by two funds: the Dave and Mary Hjorth Family Donor Advised Endowment Fund, and the Dave and Mary Hjorth Family Donor Advised Granting Fund. “I brought many of my parents’ admirable values with me to my family and community,” Mary remarked. The Hjorths’ giving has been instilled in the second generation, as their children, Nick and Joanna, are now also very involved with scholarships. More than 20 years later, Inland Empire students continue to benefit from the Hjorths’ generosity and passion for educational causes. As a lasting gift, the Hjorths‘ have included The Community Foundation in their estate plans, becoming members of the Foundation’s Brouse Legacy Society.
