Desert Community News Fund
The Desert Community News Fund helps sustain local journalism that tells the stories of nonprofits, philanthropy, and community impact across the Coachella Valley. Created through a partnership between Inland Empire Community Foundation and The Desert Sun, the fund supports reporting that shines a light on the organizations, volunteers, donors, and community leaders working to strengthen the region.
In 2023, The Desert Sun announced that its longtime Giving/Scene section was at risk of disappearing due to funding challenges. Thanks to generous contributions from foundations, nonprofits, businesses, and individual donors, the section was reinstated and continues to provide valuable coverage of the desert’s nonprofit sector. Today, readers once again have access to stories that highlight charitable work and community giving across the Coachella Valley.
While the section has been restored, its future remains uncertain from year to year. Ongoing community support is essential to ensure that local nonprofit stories continue to be told, helping residents stay informed, connected, and engaged with the causes shaping life in the desert. The Desert Community News Fund provides a way for donors to invest directly in that mission and help preserve this important community resource.
The Fund welcomes donations of any amount, either one-time or recurring.
